ISLE OF MAN
INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF DARTS
NOW IN ITS 36TH YEAR
FESTIVAL DATE - 11th to 14th March 2021
- “With the world still facing the reality and consequences of Covid 19 it is particularly pleasing that we can now bring you the full details of the 2021 Pokerstars IOM International Festival of darts.
Ironically, this year’s Festival in March proved to be the last event played in what was formerly the BDO circuit diary. Since then, and given the circumstances - quite understandably, cancellation has followed cancellation.
Frustrating as that has been for organisers and players alike and however desperate we know everyone is to get back on the oche, all we can do at this stage is plan then hope that by March next year, the world will be back to some kind of normality and we can all get back to enjoy what we love best – Playing Darts!
With Covid 19 still heavily affecting the world ,there are obviously no guarantees anyone can give at this stage that even in Match, the travel restrictions currently in place, will have been fully lifted, we just all have to hope they will.
However, we naturally appreciate that these are nervous times for so many people, and after consultation with the IOM Government, it has been decided that if there are any doubts that the Virus may impact travel and therefore force the event to be cancelled next year an announcement to that affect will be made “No later than January 2021”
With the collapse last year of Flybe and the problems particularly to the airline industry that ensued, flights are at a premium. Everyone on the island, particularly the government hope that this situation will also be resolved by next year, but until they are our only advice before booking your air tickets is to carefully check their T&C’s before doing so.
For the hundreds of regulars that go via the ferry there are no such problems. Through their ‘Book with confidence commitment scheme’ anyone booking either their ferry and or Ferry/Hotel packages through the IOM Steam Packet Company will, if Covid 19 and the travel restrictions force the Festival’s cancellation all those who booked will receive full refunds within 30 days of any said cancellation.
On the assumption the world will be back to some kind of normality and we can all meet up next March, you will notice numerous changes, most noticeably the Festivals support for and embracement of the WDF and their event circuit, and we take much comfort in seeing so many member countries all over the world doing similarly.
With that embracement assured, and for no better reason than this is the IOM Festival, the longest running event of its kind in the world, courtesy of our long standing and loyal sponsors we are excited to also confirm that in 2021 there will be four WDF ranking events, two each for the men and ladies.
One of these (The Classic) will carry Silver status which will provide the finalists automatic entry into the WDF Masters whilst the Poker Stars Open has been awarded Gold Status. This will reward the respective winners not just with entry into the Masters, but with the biggest plus of all automatic qualification into the WDF 2022 World finals for the 2022!
Another first for next year will be the introduction of disability darts. Organised by the British Disability Darts Association (BDDA) on behalf of their IOM associate member and will include WorldPara darts ranking events for both standing and wheelchair disciplines.
On behalf of the Government, Sponsors and EDO I would like to welcome all members and hope they really enjoy the first of what will hopefully be many visits to the Vila Marina”
Could we take out one of the two videos and change the video on the home page showing action from 2018 with a similar link from last year?
